The 10 Minute Blip

Robins down but not out. Report by Dave Robinson.

Ashton’s unbeaten start came to an end as the visitors turned the game around to inflict a first defeat under the permanent management of Will Haining & Jody Banim. With Alex Frost injured Richard Smith moved into the centre of defence and there were starts in midfield for both Bobby Lofthouse and debutant Jack Dyche. After Lee Gaskell had sent a free kick skimming over the bar, Jamie Green returned a corner for the Bucks to the far post needing Terry Smith to tip it away.

Dyche cut inside from the right wing but saw his effort blocked before Grayson picked up a pass down the left channel & cut inside before seeing his effort deflected away and just a minute later an inside pass found Jack Dorney sending in a skidding effort which was good enough to beat Budtz in the visitor’s goal. Shortly afterwards a poor clearance saw Lee Gaskell send a speculative 35 yard effort narrowly wide and just before the break Dorney’s free kick saw a juggling effort from Stephen Mason held underneath the crossbar.

Straight after the break Dorney picked up a loose pass in defence and set up Dyche who blazed wide and midway through the half a free kick from Brad Abbott was cleared from a dangerous area after a foul by Mason. With 20 minutes left Mark Lees conceded a corner from Green’s delivery and the dead ball saw a deep corner knocked back by Joel Bembo-Leta for Danny Burns to force home the equaliser from close range which was just reward for the visitors’ pressure.

Dyche then tricked his way to the by line but crossed straight into Budtz’s arms but on full time a quick break saw Jamie Jackson’s square ball pick out Abbott and he had time to force the ball home past Smith who then needed to deny Bradley Grayson from close range but the centre forward still had time to give the score line a slightly flattering look as he collected Abbott’s quick free kick and rounded Smith for an easy finish.

Team; Smith, Mason, Griffin (Coo), Connor, R.Smith, Lees, Crowther, Lofthouse (Baguley), Gaskell, Dyche (Nevins), Dorney. SNU: Haining, Banim
