Improved Seasiders too good for depleted Robins!

Report by David Robinson.

Ashton’s latest scratch team proved unable to match Whitby’s improved outfit who moved up to second in the table having taken the spoils at the Turnbull Ground.

With Adam Griffin absent, Bobby Lofthouse was drafted in at left back with newcomer Dominic Smalley taking the other full back position.

Lee Gaskell had the first real chance of the game putting a free kick straight into Bland’s arms after Ryan Crowther had been fouled between Gaskell was caught narrowly offside from Crowther’s reverse pass. Gaskell was then put clean through on the quarter hour and rounded Bland before going down under challenge with the referee unmoved and 5 minutes later the Seasiders moved ahead as a long ball down the left wing saw Tymon’s knock down emphatically fired home by David McTiernan. Wing back Callum Martin then got free again and saw Snaith head his cross wide of goal and immediately the visitors’ injury list lengthened still further as Crowther had to be replaced by Jody Banim.

Tymon should have done better from Hopson’s through ball as her failed to round Terry Smith but two minutes later he made amends placing home a precise header from Hopson’s left wing cross and Smith then kept Ashton in the contest with a point blank save from Tymon’s header following a quick break. Straight after the break the Robins were thrown a lifeline as Bythway was robbed in the area by Banim who fired home and the chance was there for the equaliser as Bland dropped a long free kick and Jack Dyche guided the loose ball just over the unguarded goal.

Tymon then collected McTiernan’s return pass before firing straight at Smith before Gaskell volleyed Jack Dorney’s long free kick well off target. Right on the final whistle Ashton could still have rescued a point as a long throw in was flicked on and saw Gaskell’s volley hit Weledji on the line with the rebound dropping wide off Banim.

Team: T.Smith, Smalley, Lofthouse (Coo), Cowan, Mason, Lees, Dorney, R.Smith, Gaskell, Crowther (Banim), Dyche. SNU: Haining.
