Dabbers too strong at the Weaver.

Report by David Robinson

Play off chasing Nantwich got the better of Ashton by the odd goal in five on a sunny day in Cheshire at the Weaver Stadium. On a dry, bouncy pitch the visitors made the better start and should have moved ahead on 10 minures as Matty Chadwick’s shot was only half cleared to Ryan Crowther who fired it over the top.
Chadwick then almost caught Gyollai out with a free kick to the near post but it was Nantwich who moved ahead after 17 minutes as Matt Bell’s pass Found Joe Mwasile beating the offside trap to lift the opening goal over Luke Pilling. A fine move then saw Hancock’s header from Mwasile’s cross held by Pilling and Lee Knight helped Charlie Duke’s cross over the top following good work by Crowther. 6 minutes before the break Bell’s corner from the right dropped in off the unfortunate Mark Lees having beaten everyone.

The Robins set out in determined fashion after the break and sub Richard Smith immediately headed Chadwick’s corner past the far post and a decent run by Chadwick saw Duke closed down in the nick of time. Chadwick then sent in a speculative effort from the wing which Gyollai could only spill into Crowther’s pass to reduce the deficit but the hosts could have re-established their two goal lead as Ryan Brooke was sent into the area only to send his left foot effort bobbling wide. Smith’s ball into the box then saw Chadwick denied from close in and with a quarter of an hour to go Pilling kept Ashton in the contest with a point blank save from Mukendi who latched on to Touray’s cross.
Mukendi then put a free header past the far post from Bell’s corner but the substitute played his part with a flick on which sent Steve Jones running clear to prod home the third. Almost on time Gyollai dropped a long cross which saw Smith’s shot cleared off the line before Chadwick forced the ball home possibly off a home defender.
Team: Pilling, Smalley, Stachini (Coo), Mason, Woodford, Lees, Duke (Maiese), Roberts (Smith), Chadwick, Knight, Crowther. SNU: Banim, Lowe .
