Yeltz Sent Home Empty Handed

Four on the trot for Robins. Report by David Robinson

Ashton United’s recent good form continued as they clocked up their third home win on the trot against their West Midlands visitors. Within the first minute Matty Chadwick’s instant shot was half blocked after a cross from the left wing and Tristian Dunkley then forced his way into the area for the visitors forcing a good low block from Jonathan McIlwaine.

With 12 minutes elapsed a free kick down the right wing saw Chadwick dummy his man and put over a cross which gave Ryan Crowther an unmissable chance for the opening goal. Just 4 minutes later a shot from Mathew Birley bounced up off McIlwaine for a corner from which Daniel Bragoli headed home Birley’s delivery.

Ashton could have regained the lead immediately as John Roberts brought a decent save out of Daniel Platt from Chadwick’s free kick but they did move ahead again just before the half hour as Domenico Maiese’s cross was cleared to the other full back Dominic Smalley who cut inside on to his left foot before providing a tremendous finish for his first goal in the Robins’ colours. A right wing corner then saw Joe Connor slice his clearance to safety before Bragoli’s free kick was glanced away off the top of hiw own crossbar by Benito Lowe.

The second half was a quieter affair with Crowther and Chadwick combining for the latter to volley wide before Johnny Gorman just failed to make contact with Chadwick’s dangerous left wing delivery.
A through ball then needed McIlwaine to be smartly off his line before a passing movement saw the ball reach Lee Chilton who fired over on the turn and Ben Clarke’s pull back found Bragoli’s side foot effort well blocked by Stephen Mason. The closest the Yeltz came to an equaliser was when Ethan Delaney’s speculative cross was reached by Chilton ahead of McIlwaine with the ball squeezing just wide of the left hand post and Chadwick almost extended Ashton’s advantage as he reached the by line before firing right across goal.

Team: McIlwaine, Smalley, Maiese, Mason, Connor, Lees, Lowe (Smith), Roberts, Chadwick (Coo), Knight (Gorman), Crowther. SNU: Banim, Collins.
