Ashton moved into the play off positions securing all 3 points with a comfortable triumph at Hurst Cross on Halloween. With Nicky Platt injured Mason Fawns was handed a midfield debut with Alpha Kaba on the bench for the first time and it took the Robins just 8 minutes to register as leading scorer Matty Chadwick tucked away another spot kick after Liam Tomsett had been brought down by Barnes chasing Chadwick’s return flick.
Chadwick was in on the act again just 5 minutes later as his deflected cross from the by line was just too far ahead of Danny Pilkington. Cribley then moved past Dom Smalley at the other end forcing Carnell to tip over and shortly afterwards Harrad’s header from Burdett’s cross forced Carnell into a full length save. Barnes was then called on to make a decent stop of his own as Fawns got hold of Will Beesley’s long cross, and Chadwick then played in Pilkington who chose to square the ball to Fawns whose effort was forced wide.
With the interval approaching Williams then sent a swinging effort adjacent to the goal for the visitors before Jack Dyche’s persistence brought Ashton a second goal as he lobbed home from a narrow angle following a mistake by captain Wiley.
The second period opened with Cribley floating an effort past the far post but 2 minutes later a great turn from Tomsett took him into the area from where he played in Pilkington with Tomsett continuing his run to touch home the resulting cross.
The game then became a quieter affair with the result decided before sub Doyle-Charles provided a pull back which Harrad fired wide and Cribley set up Burdett who should have done better than to drag his shot wide. Dyche then fired into the side netting after cutting inside and Wiley’s shot following a corner was blocked with Kaba almost having the last word heading Tomsett’s corner wide of the far post.
