Ten man Robins return with a point

Ashton returned from Cheshire with a share of the points after being reduced to 10 men in the first half but may have been disappointed after missing a second half penalty. With the hosts winless at Wincham Park since October, the Robins had a new face on the bench in the shape of Jamie Hinchliffe and also Josh Granite continuing his return from injury.
The game got off to a flying start as just 4 minutes in Aaron Chalmers fine pass out of defence set Nic Evangelinos away and his pullback found captain Mark Lees arriving and he switched the ball on to his left foot before firing the visitors ahead. Instantly Steven Tames cut inside at the other end and saw his shot deflect through to Rob Hopley who struck the crossbar but Will Jones’s next effort fell to Tames who levelled matters up.
Lanre Olapede then gave the ball straight to Jones whose shot was dealt with by Carnell who also held James Foley’s free kick just ahead of the onrushing Wilson. The action then switched back to the other end as Dom Smalley’s right wing cross saw John Pritchard just making insufficient contact at the far post but 9 minutes before the break Olapede pulled back Tom Owens as he ran clear leaving Mr Corlett little option but to issue a red card and the final action of the period saw Hopley hit the side netting from a narrow angle.
On the resumption the excellent Carnell was immediately called into action with a spreading save to deny Jones from Danny McKenna’s cross and Aaron Chalmers then failed to get enough on his header from Pritchard’s free kick. McKenna’s latest cross then reached Hopley whose shot was blocked before he connected with the rebound just being denied by a full stretch Carnell. With the hosts upping the pressure a long free kick saw Jones’s header guided wide by Owens with the goal gaping.
Midway through the half Evangelinos’ pass then sent Tomsett into the area from where Hare brought him down at the cost of a yellow card but Evangelinos’s penalty allowed the keeper to make the save with his trailing foot. Aaron Chalmers then saw his free kick well palmed away by Hare and Carnell was again to the rescue denying Hopley’s header from McKenna’s corner.
