Report by David Robinson

High-flying Spennymoor ran out convincing winners on a breezy day in the North East. The Robins were giving full debuts to goalkeeper Jan Budtz and right back Harrison Holgate and with Matty Chadwick absent ill Liam Tomsett filled in as centre forward.
The hosts started with both the wind behind them and the slope in their favour but it was the visitors making the early running as Ramirez Howarth chased a loose ball and his persistence won a corner which saw Aaron Chalmers head Sam Sheridan’s delivery narrowly wide. Sheridan then gave Jordan Sangha the opportunity to test Gould low down but Shaun Tuton then immediately escaped down the left wing with Matt Regan needing to cut out his cross at the expense of a corner. The reprieve was only temporary as James Curtis rose to head home Mark Anderson’s dead ball delivery and Glen Taylor’s pass then just failed to release Jamie Chandler.
Anderson then made space in the area before chipping past the far post whilst Bradley Jackson cut inside for Ashton and sent an effort curling on the wind which brought a superb tip away out of Gould. Anderson’s clear run from halfway needed Budtz to save with his legs and Hibbs then won a corner which saw Anderson’s far post delivery headed home unchallenged by Shane Henry. Moors could have moved further ahead as Anderson’s pass put Ramshaw through the centre and he flicked wide of goal but they did register their third right on half time as Anderson placed a free kick into the far corner after Mark Lees had fouled Taylor.

Sheridan’s shot was then deflected narrowly wide from Jackson’s lay off and Taylor fired straight at Budtz after picking up a loose ball. Ashton brought on Luke Ashworth as an emergency striker and he should have done better then glance Jackson’s delivery past the far post but just before the hour Anderson played Johnson in to beat the offside trap and finish confidently. Johnson’s pullback just evaded Anderson and Taylor fired straight at Budtz and Ashworth helped home Jackson’s cross but was flagged offside.
The scoring was completed with 3 minutes left as a left wing cross was converted by Adam Boyes after Lewis Baines failed to clear.

Team: Budtz, Holgate, Regan (Hill 62), Chalmers (Ashworth 54), Baines, Sheridan, Lees, Jackson, Tomsett, Sangha (Watson 54), Howarth . SNU: Martin, Anghel.
