Hat Trick of Clean Sheets
Report by Dave Robinson
Ashton and Stafford produced a goalless scoreline for the 2nd time this season on a bitterly cold day at Marston Road. The pitch was very dry and bumpy throughout and few of the players managed to rise above the conditions and produce any entertain to warm a decent crowd.
A long free kick into the area fell to home forward Carr who blazed too high and Thomas Moore was then robbed by Cope near the byline who set up Heler to side foot wide of a virtually open goal. Matty Barlow then won the ball at the other end which led to Aaron Burns being denied at the near post by Garratt.
On the half hour the best move of the half saw Burke release Matty Kosylo down the left and his cross was sidefooted against the bar from close range by Burns, Garratt being able to grab the rebound before it had crossed the line. The half ended with Heler making a good run to the byline before producing a fine cross which Sheldon headed wide of the far post when well placed.
After the break Craig Robinson conceded a free kick which Kinsella fired just over and then a mistake in the home defence saw Aaron Burns shoot over at the other end. Both teams then made substitutions but it was still the conditions winning with ball control increasingly difficult. Moore’s free kick looked to be on target before Burns deflected it wide of the target and Kosylo played a 1-2 with Burns before crossing from the byline but the home defence were able to clear their lines.
Heler made a good exchange with Cope but his effort looped up easily for Phillips to make the save and the final action saw the visitor’s keeper beaten to a loose ball by Kasiama whose cross was scrambled away to put the crowd out of their misery but at least back into the warmth.
