Ashton snatched a draw after a dramatic comeback at Victory Park. After a delayed kick off it was the Magpies who made up for lost time as Josh Hine picked up a loose ball and outpaced Gorton before finishing confidently past Phillips after only 6 minutes.
A long clearance then found the same forward lobbing his effort wide of goal before a good move saw Gee release Pearson who shot narrowly wide. After 15 mins Whitham was picked out by Ross in the area but hit the side netting, and Denhams’ left foot effort was off target for Ashton. A throw in fell to Logan whose effort was deflected narrowly wide as the interval arrived with the Robins trailing.
Chorley started the 2nd period as they had the first as within 5 minutes a cross into the area saw Whitham’s knock down converted by Stephenson, who got his second shortly afterwards heading home Jarvis’ cross. Several substitutions followed before Joe O’Neill hit a left foot shot straight at keeper Ashton, but the Robins then began their comeback as Logan made a great run past 3 defenders before seeing his cross headed home by Pilkington (pictured).
Teague then helped Ashton United out with a short backpass which livewire Pilkington latched onto further reducing the deficit; and in a grandstand finish Logan’s cross was knocked back by Coppin to Rick who finished confidently to maintain Ashton’s unbeaten start to the season.
