Kevin Leadbetter speaks to James Burch.

The form we are in at the moment, top spot is definitely up for grabs!
- Kevin Leadbetter, Midfielder.

After scoring his first goal for the club on Saturday. Kevin Leadbetter is now aiming to help his side clinch top spot, with less than a third of the season to go. The former Skelmersdale United man scored the second goal in a 3-2 win away at Buxton on Saturday and in all fairness that first elusive goal for the winger had been coming.

Firing in a powerful 'cross-come-shot' at the Silverlands Stadium Leadbetter is hoping to add more goals to his repertoire, picking up more important goals in the process.

"I’m very happy to have scored my first goal for the club. Although it wasn't the best of goals, they all count and it was a good feeling to hit the net again. I am very pleased my first goal for the club came during a win."

Leadbetter added; "Some goals become crucial in games and hopefully all goals lead to those all-important three points."

The 35 year-old has registered four assists in his ten appearances, since joining Ashton United making him a prized asset for the club. Leadbetter continued by saying;

"I wouldn't say it was important that I scored and didn't assist on Saturday. It doesn’t matter who scores the goals, as long as we are scoring and winning games. It helps us a lot when players from all around the squad are scoring."

After substitute appearances in his first three games for the Robins, Leadbetter has now started four of the last six games for the club. Having played for eleven sides during his career, the midfielder is a real team player and is willing to help out the team in any way he can.

"I'm very happy to be starting games for the club now. I've been here long enough now to know what is going on. I go out there to give it my all and to do my shift for the side. If that's for 70, 80 or 90 minutes I am happy as long as we win the match."

The Robins currently sit just off top spot in second place going into the game against Frickley Athletic and despite understanding nothing is won or lost in March, Leadbetter believes top spot is definitely up for grabs.

With many more twists and turns to come with a month left of the season to go.

"The form we are in at the moment, top spot is definitely up for grabs. We've just got to keep taking it one game at a time. If we keep picking up three points we won't need to look at other sides. I am sure there will be a few twists and turns towards now and the end of the season."
