Frustrating day out for Under 12's
Ashton travelled to Tyldesley hoping to avenge earlier season defeats but once again narrowly lost out to their opponents.
Tyldesley 5 - v - 3 AOM
With a slightly depleted squad, the under 12's visited Tyldesley hoping to reverse the result of earlier season matches. The weather was good, as was the referee and this made for an excellent game.
The hosts started the better, putting Ashton under territorial pressure and they made a breakthrough mid way through the first half, exploiting space down Ashton's right flank. However, the Lads' responded well and were the better team in the 10 minutes before half time. Niall powered over after sustained phases of play. It was heartbreaking therefore for Ashton to concede out of nothing right on half time, after a Tyldesley player stole the ball and ran in unchallenged.
A further quick try from the hosts after half time ended up being pivotal in the contest, as it put the Lads two behind. As has been the case in recent weeks, the Boys missed tackles, which should have been made. However, Ashton showed great spirit to finish strongly. Luke drove over and Etienne scored a well constructed team try, but it was too little too late.
In truth, there was little to choose between these teams, but the hosts are a well drilled, well balanced outfit and made fewer mistakes, which ultimately led them to victory.
Seb was rightly named man of the match for his sheer waspish endeavours. Special mention also to Nathan who put in some excellent tackles at key times.
We'll get them next time Boys!
Tries - Niall, Luke, Etienne
MOM - Seb
