Victory from the jaws of defeat
Tyler Parry penalty wins the game
This game had almost everything - blustery wind, driving rain, a goal scored by a goalkeeper and a penalty in the final throes of the game!
Ash United started off well but found themselves a goal down on 6 minutes. Finding it difficult to cope with the blustery wind against them, the U18's managed to keep the score down to 1-0 to Cove right up to half-time.
Despite having the aid of the blustery wind in the second half, but now faced with driving rain too, the U18's went a second goal down to Cove on 60 minutes. Tyler Parry then pulled one back on 66 minutes, followed by Joe Abel on 77 minutes, to even the scores. Both sides battled hard in the conditions and on 80 minutes Cove scored their third to make it 3-2 to the home side.
However, the Ash lads found a higher gear and 'keeper Ben Hampton scored by unleashing a ball from his penalty area that went straight over the head of his opposite number in the Cove goal. Everyone on the Ash side went crazy with celebrations. 3-3 and only 6 minutes plus time allowed, to go to the end of the game.
In the final three minutes of the match, a Cove player made a rash challenge on an Ash player and the referee blew his whistle. For a moment or two no-one knew what the referee's decision was going to be, as he consulted with the assistant referee closest to the incident inside the penalty area - "penalty" said the referee. Up stepped Tyler Parry, who, brushing aside the pressure, drilled the penalty home to make it 4-3 to Ash United U18's. The lads then closed the game down in those final minutes to win the match 4-3. It was one of those games where if you were with the winning team you couldn't help getting carried away in the after match celebrations.
