Farleigh Rovers 1 - 5 Ash Utd
1st Team Manager, Daniel Bishop's Match Report
Our first away game for a while and a very happy hunting ground. It’s our longest journey of the season, but always an entertaining one. We went into this game knowing that we couldn’t let complacency set in, Farleigh were below us in the table but were not to be underestimated at any point. We started the game with an attacking intent and took the lead through Richard Lediju after 2 minutes when he slotted home from close range: 0 – 1.
We made it 0 – 2 after a long clearance from a Farleigh corner was chased down by Neil Hardy who gave the centre back 25 yards and still caught him, he squared the ball to an unmarked Richard Lediju to slot home. It remained 0 – 2 at half time.
We started the second half very nervously and Farleigh capitalised on that when a mistake led to them pulling a goal back from the edge of the box to make it 1 – 2. Five minutes later we were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box and Paul Douglass cheekily scored while the wall was being set up by the keeper, 1 – 3 and we were back in full control. Keaton Landess came off the bench to score as he ran through and delicately chipped the keeper to make it 1 – 4; the only thing missing was a Richard Lediju hat trick. He kindly obliged when he scored from close range in the 90th minute. That’s now 15 goals in 12 games for Richard Lediju and the league’s top goal scorer. Final Score 1 – 5.
Another excellent performance and we get to do it all again in three days as Farleigh travel to Ash in the Cherry Records Premier Challenge Cup on Tuesday night. That’s now 7 wins in a row.
