Ash United 2-0 Farleigh Rovers

CCL Premier Challenge Cup - 1st Team Manager's Match Report

It was a weird situation to play Farleigh Rovers again just 3 days after beating them in the league. I made five changes to the team to freshen things up and to keep the level of performance high. We started the game positively but Farleigh were a lot better organised, defended really well, sat a bit deeper and looked to catch us on the counter attack. This was working but they never really threatened our goal with any sustained pressure.

We were trying too hard in the first half and our play in the final third was letting us down. We finally made the break through when a Paul Douglass free kick looped over the keepers head and into the top corner. Cross or Shot only Paul Douglass can answer that. 1 – 0 at Half time.

We started the second half with a little more composure in the final third but the Farleigh goalkeeper was pulling off some very good saves to deny us the second goal. We were creating more and more chances and finally got the second goal when Neil Hardy turned and scored from the edge of the box. 2 – 0. I made a couple of changes and we managed to see the game out, keeping a clean sheet.
It wasn’t our best performance of the season, however it’s always nice to win when you don’t play your best. The run continues and we are now on 8 straight wins.
