Askeans stroll to a comfortable home win

Fortress Well Hall remains unbreached!

Askeans played and demolished a clearly under strength Ash side on Saturday by 55 points to zero. Ash only managed to muster 16 players for the trip to well hall so from the off were not going to be the tough side we played away twice last season.

However you can only play the team put in front of you (unless like the princes the team opposite doesn't appear in front of you!!) and Askeans put in a solid professional performance which had the old boys on the sidelines purring at times.

First try came from Sam Adams who hit a great line from a simple backs move to stroll through the crevice that appeared in the opposition defence (see chaps the simple stuff does work, try it more often!!!) for a converted try by James Hanney. Next score came from a catch and drive line out as Charlie, playing his new found role as a flanker, controlled the ball at the back and darted over the line from 5 yards when the space appeared as if he'd been playing there all his life. Con added by JH 14-0. Sam Adams was on the score sheet next as an overlap at wide was worked well through the hands as Sam burst through and ran under the posts - con added by JH. Last score of the half 21-0.

The second half started at a bang with a quick move across the backs and Joe Blackman hitting a fantastic line from full back (and catching the ball too) to streak past the defensive cover to score in the corner, con missed. Next score came from Ben Hughes who discovered that if you hold the ball with two hands the probability of dropping it is greatly reduced! With 3 defenders in the way Ben showed good strength and feet to barrel over the line, com missed. Next score was for Sam Adams hat trick, I know this because of my notes but I have no recollection other than it was scored near the posts!! The less said about the conversion mind you the better!! James Hanney scored next as the worlds biggest gap opened in front of him which he gladly accepted to run in under the posts. Conversion added. Loose head prop Kailan capped an all round excellent performance by getting on the score sheet next finishing a move after a number of phases by appearing to dive through a pair of defensive legs for a well worked try. Conversion just missed. Last try of the game came for Niall Highgate as the dejected and tired opposition attempted an offload out of the tackle which Niall was the only one near to run in from beyond the halfway unopposed to score under the posts. Niall dropped kicked the conversion to make it 55-0 final score.

A fantastic result against a combative Ash side who are not the side on their travels as the side that play at home. Askeans scored 50 + points in a league game for the first time in many a year as AJ and CJ struggled to recollect the last time it happened! Truth be known Askeans could have scored a lot more but at times the handling was woeful!! Hopefully Liam Dunseath can show the boys this week of running with two hands on the ball!!

Next up sees one of the toughest fixtures in the calendar away to New Ash Green. All players make yourselves available and I'm sure another W can follow.

The princes were walkover winners after Dartford were kind enough to tell us face to face at their ground that they couldn't be bothered to play. This capped yet another fantastic weekend for Askean RFC which continues the unbeaten run. Next up sees the Vets in action on Friday night against Charlton Park. No pressure fellas but should you lose then you're the first Askeans side to do so this season ha ha :-)
