Tomorrow night’s game against Louth Town has been called off after vandals caused between £15,000 and £20,000 worth of damage at their ground.
In the latest attack, the refreshments cabin has been burnt down whilst every window in the hospitality cabin was smashed. Brickwork was damaged in main stand and everything that was in the cabins has been destroyed.
Also destroyed were some kits and training kits, plus mementos from this season’s successful FA Vase campaign with Padiham and West Auckland Town.
Askern Villa, secretary, Dave Hall said: “I’m totally gutted; I don’t know how we bounce back from this”
“All the hard work that people have put in and bringing the ground up to standard, with some people forking money out of their own pocket to get the club to this standard”
“Our future is in jeopardy, now our facilities doesn’t meet the ground grading criteria to play in this league which also takes away the possibility of us entering the FA Cup and the FA Vase next season”
“Someone must know if their kids were involved, sweets, crisps and coke were stolen plus they would also smell of smoke when they got home”
It is the third time that the Welfare Grounds have been targeted in a year. Thieves stole steelwork in September whilst, last February, the changing rooms were broken into and copper pipes and the boiler were taken.
The committee will meet on Wednesday night and we have a few big decisions to make.
Shame to hear about this yet again! All the best wishes from all at Rossington Main
Thanks Daniel
What kind of moron does something like this. Hopev you get something sorted in time for the Emley game. Good luck.
Hopefully we should have things cleared up for our home game with Yorkshire Amateurs (11th Feb). The Cricket club have offered their tea room for us to use as an hospitality room.
