AOFC V West Bridgford
A real game of two halves
This top of the table clash was the classic game of two halves. Players, coaches and parents of AOFC assumed it was job done at half time, only for some squeaky bum time in the last 10 minutes.
Blues shuffled formation, with Lloyd going into classic number 10, behind a striking pair of Max and Ollie, and in front of a hardworking midfield three of Macca, Dan and Will. The trade off is a bit less width and a bit less protection for the starting back four, but Cam, Ben, Mason and Chris showed great control and concentration to limit Bridgford's chances. The setup worked like a charm as man of the match Lloyd regularly beat his man, got his head up and found forward passes. Aslockton constantly cut through the West Bridgford back line like a sabre through semolina, and by half time we were 4-0 up courtesy of Ollie (2), Max (turning all those 'oh so close' shouts into 'get in') and Lloyd himself. Noah came on during that first half to freshen up our back four and we cruised to half time without conceding.
It's tough to know whether West Bridgford improved, Blues got complacent, or we just tired in the last 20 minutes, but the opposition found routes to goal twice in the 2nd half to make it a nervy ending. Some lung busting runs out of defence from our back four, plus more sweeper keeper confidence from Tom, pushed the opposition back though, and we held firm for a 4-2 win and a strengthening of our top spot in the division.
