BACON BUTTIES PLUS ENGLAND WIN WORKS FOR ASPATRIA ON RUGBYFORCE DAY.....

The Annual NatWest RugbyForce Day came a week early for Aspatria, indeed it commenced a few days ago when some urgent drainage work was completed.

The day was dragged forward a week due to a raft of social events taking place on the ‘official’ date that would have significantly reduced the number of volunteers available.

Today, there were 30 adult volunteers undertaking work around the ground and in the club house, ably supported by many Junior Black Reds who were happy to muck in with any task that would get them wet or dirty.

Leading up to the day several big tasks have already been undertaken by Bower Park volunteers. These include :-

  • Completion of the new tractor shed roadway that will provide dry access all year round. Our thanks for this go to Paul Miller for his loan of equipment and the hours he put into the task.
  • New sewerage pipework to end a volume disposal problem that has caused some concern for the past 18 months. Thanks, to Martin Greenhow for the loan of equipment and the time freely given to complete the task.
  • Improved drainage to the Pringle Side of the main pitch. Thanks to Dryden Ward and Algy Reynolds for their work on this and the loan of specialist equipment.

All the above tasks were masterminded by Club President, Bill Clark and Chairman John Heyworth, who have both worked tirelessly to ensure the success of an annual event which continues to go from strength to strength.

Today, the list of tasks undertaken is too long to print but here is a brief resume of some, with team leaders.

  • 1st team changing room refurbishment. Phil Dixon and Jack Clegg, ably supported by Mark Beverley for the specialist joinery work.
  • Rebuild of drainage inspection chamber. Matthew Atkinson.
  • Club House Spring Clean. Fiona Pearson and Barbara Scott plus a great team of Ladies from the Juniors.
  • Barrier Paint Stripping. Clive Creighton.
  • Catering. Helen Nelson and Gillian Humes. Brilliant Butties to go along with an England win – it doesn’t get any better.
  • Gym Spring Clean. Tom Borthwick.
  • Goal Post Repaint. David Humes.
  • Strimming. Graham Andrews.

Plus thanks to everyone who completed all the small jobs that have been put off for the past 12 months. We could not have done it without you. Have a look at the Photo Gallery and hopefully you have been captured working or in some cases 'scoffing'.
