Irwin cleans up with 5 trophies

Bad tempered, me? I'll kill you!
- Mike Bain- Club Hot Head

The great and good of the club descended on Aspatria RUFC for the annual Awards Evening. They were joined by guest of honour, ex-Wales, Warrington and Leeds legend, Iestyn Harris.

Mark Irwin was the centre of attention as he scooped 5 awards to cap impressive season which culminated with a call up to the senior county squad. Mark has had a fantastic season which has seen him break the try scoring record with 28 and he has been the stand out performer for the Hornets in 2016.

Gary Armstrong was crowned Young Player of the Year after a solid season which saw him called up to the county under 19 squad. Stalwart, Richard Holliday won the coveted Man of Steel award for his all-action season in which he cemented his place as one of the Hornets modern greats. He also shared the Clubman of the Year award with team-mate Stewart Reynolds. The pair were awarded this in recognition of their contribution to junior rugby, under the guidance of Mike Storey. Chris Scott won Most Improved after a really good season and he was also awarded a special Man of Chocolate award after his impressive run of injuries. The club's strapping bill should approximately halve next season should he stay healthy.

Christine Donald, Paige Cass and Kelly Rowley were presented with gifts in recognition of their contributions to the club. We thank them for their efforts. Black Red alikadoo, Barney Clegg was presented with a Hornets' tie to thank him for all the superb photographs that he has taken this season.

Finally, club hothead, Mike Bain was awarded a leash to keep him a safe distance from opposition wingers and referees. Thanks to Mark Brown for arranging this.
