It seems like an age ago since Aspatria played a home game. Indeed, it is 8 weeks since the Hornets defeated Kells on the park. This week’s visitors are Broughton Red Rose and it is always a pleasure to welcome them. Aspatria managed to take the spoils in the away fixture back in March with a 24-0 win in some atrocious conditions but, hopefully, the ground will be rather firmer on Saturday and allow both teams to play some running rugby.
Aspatria are acutely aware that they need to keep their foot on the pedal if they are to stand a chance of catching pace-setters Cockermouth and Egremont. Coach Rowley will have been encouraged by the debut of Ellis Nixon last week at Lowca and competition for places will become even more fierce as Brad Bouch, Luke Crossman and Greg Wrathall coming back into contention for a spot in the 17.
Broughton have a powerful pack and this threat will have to be met head on if Aspatria are to gain anything from the game.
