We take a look at how the teams have fared in 2018!

So both Aston teams are now half way through their respective seasons. Two months have passed since the winter break shutdown and since we recommenced there has been mixture of fortunes for the sides.

The first team have picked up where they left off. They currently sit top of the league with a 3 point gap and a game in hand, and are also in all the cup competitions they were entered into. Five wins out of five in 2018, with 21 goals scored and only 4 conceded speaks volumes for how the team is performing at the moment. I believe the main turning point has been the competition for places. The squad has improved dramatically this season, and everyone is pushing each other to get the best from one and other. There has also been a significant improvement of the goals spread across the team, meaning there is not the constant burden on 1 person to get the goals. There is a togetherness in this group which probably hasn’t been seen in recent seasons, and with every win bringing them closer they must be hoping for some silverware come the end of the season.

For the reserves it has been much tougher and they now find themselves in a fight to stay up. Since the turn of the year they have been hit with 5 loses and a draw, but all is not lost. The league is very tight and if they can get a little run going it will move them away from danger. The struggle for Dave is having a consistent amount of players available to him. Every week is a new 11 and it makes it hard for him to get any fluency. On the plus side though he always gets a team together, and has also seen a few of his players get chances with the first team.

Let’s hope in the last remaining months there is some silverware to report about and that the reserves consolidate their position in league 2.
