Close Shave for Lions...
...as everyone's cheering beer in
On an extremely wet day Aston played host to Moreton Rangers. Aston were collectively focused on making it six wins. Individually some were more focused on their budding romances and a day trip to Hyde parks winter wonderland that beckoned the following day.
A few changes to the eleven again and saw Henry Golding and drifter take their places on the bench. Drifter so excited for a winter wonderland trip that he wasn't even capable of filling the water bottles up or running the line.
Lothario Alan Kennedy soon turned up to be disgusted by the sight of his second favourite son being benched. A foul mouthed north of hadrians wall tirade soon followed and he was gone within ten minutes of kick off off to watch the better brother.
In an unsure start Aston allowed a Moreton striker a chance on the right hand side of the area after Peter Jenkins had more problems with the sun and missed the ball after it looked like Woodley would get there, a scuffed shot was heading for the bottom left hand corner but for a tremendously strong right hand from Clubman extraordinaire Ryan Hewer who tipped the ball around the post.
Aston were sloppy, it was soon livened up by the man they call Frank, Beer fizzed a pass into Fleming who was playing wide right, he beat one then two and was taken to the ground by the Moreton defender. A definite penalty and an easy decision for referee Dennis Souch. Ross Fleming stepped up and made it 1-0.
Matt "game changer" Smith now put his wing wizardry onto the pitch and beat two and found Beer who blazed over when it was easier to score. It was all Aston. Another Smith run ensued, this time he laid it off to James Fleming belying the myth that he doesn't pass. Fleming struck at goal only to be well saved by the Moreton goalkeeper, the ball fell to Vince Evans who hit a ferocious effort only to bring out a superb double save from the goalkeeper. Half time.
Moreton were much improved second half after a rousing teamtalk. Despite this Rabbich had a chance to make it 2-0 after a corner for Aston by the ever influential Fleming senior. Moreton responded with an equaliser as a booming header went in above short legged Hewer in the Aston goal, 1-1 and bottom of the table Moreton were looking a decent outfit.
Moreton were now looking like world beaters as there lanky central midfielder took up Hewers request to put it in the middle bin on the right hand side as he curled a great goal in. 2-1 Moreton. Twenty five minutes to go what did Aston have in the locker?
The gaffer Hewer responded by making a double change, lovestruck Kennedy came on as well as Henry Golding. Obviously Smith had to make way like always as well as the quiet Darren Harriss.
There was soon time for a foul mouthed tirade from Evans towards the referee as a dubious call from the linesman was given. Fortunately for Evans referee Souch is not a fan of the paperwork side of his new found hobby.
The changes had the required impetus for Aston as around five minutes later goal machine Beer busted the net from within his favourite box the six yard box after a Eriksen-esque cross from James Fleming. 2-2.
Moreton were tiring and the game was being stretched by Kennedys off the ball running, the excitement of the beckoning Winter Wonderland seemed to be propelling him to run around more than usual and an added bonus of not being offside.
Trickery from maverick Evans saw the ball played into Ross Fleming who tried to curl into the far right post and just missing the target.
A barrage of corners followed and a chance for Golding was not converted from close range. Fortunately the ball soon broke for Evans who fizzed towards goal but the Daydreaming Kennedy managed to block the ball and preventing a certain goal, the ball fell to Beer who drove into the box and placed the ball onto his left and hit a great shot in the light rain which took a slight deflection and past the Moreton goalkeeper sparing Kennedy's blushes. Beer raced to the corner flag and comically impersonated Cristiano Ronaldos trademark celebration.#cringe.
They will still time for Vince Evans to blaze over after clever player from Kennedy. Aston 3-2 Moreton Rangers. Aston relieved to take all three points. A great end to 2016 with six wins on the bounce. 2017 will start with two massive cup games, "up the Aston"
