J.P.Wood ,known as Pete,passed away yesterday,Saturday 13 December.

Pete was a tremendous servant of Aston Old Edwardians, both as a player and an Administrator. He gained a 1st XV tie as a full-back and in his later playing career he moved to the pack.He captained both 4th and 5th XVs and I first knew him as a referee of the lowest home match, wearing his trademark light blue jersey.
However,it was as Secretary of the rugby from 1980-1986 that I started to know him better,as he subtly convinced me that I should become his successor. He was a great supporter of the Club and was a regular tourist.
During the 1980s and into the 1990s no away trip was complete without "Woody" ,often driving the minibus and dispensing advice to new and old players alike.
As well as convincing me to become Secretary ,he convinced his son Rob to play for our colts even though he went to Bishop Vesey GS and stayed with AOE to play 1st XV fly-half.
Our thoughts are with Pete's children ,Rob and Liz and the whole family at this time and will inform members at a later date about Funeral arrangements.
