League title slips away
Woeful defending and bad finishing saw Talbot throw away their slim chance to lift the league title. A large travelling Talbot support were left bewildered as another shot shy performance saw them slump to another 3-0 defeat in the space of nine days at t
Apart from a crazy booking for Latta by referee Steven's for simulation when he actually fell over trying to shoot was about all the "Bot" fans had to shout about in the opening quarter of an hour. In fact it was to get worse when Ricky Robb misjudged a punt up the park and as the ball blew over his head McCann rushed in and lobbed Leishman.
Talbot did press after this and it was hard to find where they could create an opening. In fact it was the home side that nearly provided the equaliser when Coll headed just past his own post. Minutes later Young forced McLenaghan into a smart save from a free kick Talbot had a clear cut chance on 41 minutes when Spence latched onto a latta pass in the box but he swept the ball well past the post.
It only took two minutes of the re-start for the home outfit to douple their lead. Schoolboys tactics at a Talbot free kick allowed Ashfield a break and Fraser strolledpast a static Talbot defence to despatch the ball past Leishman.
It was 3-0 on the 52nd minute when Robb and Pettigrew left a long throw in to each other which McCann snapped up and he set up Martin who slotted past Leishman.
Talbot introduced Park and Faulds for Spence and Latta, and they did make a difference. McCann replaced Milliken on the 77th minute as Talbot tried to drag them selves back into the match. Young was unlucky twice when the keeper tipped two good shots over the bar, Slavin headed over when he was presented with an empty net , McCann and pope had a header and shot cleared off the line while Park hit the bar with a header. However it was game set and match for the Talbot.
