Classy Talbot hit eight
Talbot made short work of the select team that faced them in a charity match for youngster Sean Rooney and the John Brown Memorial trust at Lesser Hampden. Played on astroturf the Bot showed some good football as they over ran their opponents.
The game was into its 10th minute when Talbot struck when Young harrassed a defender into losing the ball and he sent a great pass across the goals to Rab Andrews and he made no mistake. Twelve minutes later Andrews was on the scoresheet once again when he latched onto a loose ball outside the box and rounded the keeper to make it 2-0.
A minute later it was 3-0 when the keeper punched a cross out the box into the path of Lyle and he rifled the ball into the net. The game settled down after this with Talbot being the more dominate. Right on the half time whistle Reilly got his name on the scoresheet when he outstripped the Select defence and although the keeper got a block on the ball it spun over his body and into the net.
The second half started much like the first and in the 49th minute Pope missed a penalty. If the Select team thought that their luck had changed then that was dashed when Andrews scored his hat trick.
From then on it was all Talbot but on saying this near the end the Select did carve a couple of chances but McGarrity was equal to them. Wilson brought the scoreline to the half dozen from the penalty spot and added two more on the 60th and 65th minute. The scoreline could have reached double figures but the Select keeper did his best to keep the score down with umpteen blocks and saves from Montgomerie and Milliken.
All in it was a good run out for the players with a few goals as well.
McGarrity, Lyle(McLuckie 54)Pope, Pettigrew, McGoldrick, Spence(Wilson 46), Young(Milliken 46),Park, Reilly(Spence 54), Montgomerie, Andrews(White 54)
