Harrow Borough 1 Aveley 1
Harrow Borough loanee Jon-Jo Bates was enough for Harrow Borough to come from behind a seal a draw at home to the Millers on Saturday.
But it was another case of what might have been for the visitors as they again had plenty of opportunities, but failed to find a decisive second goal that would have taken the wind out of Dave Anderson’s Harrow Borough side.
It was Aveley that started the brighter of the two sides and could well have taken a third minute lead when Lee Perry ‘s cross into the box eluded everyone in Boro’s penalty area, including the Millers front line of Chetin Ali and Ellis Remy.
Left back Charlie Read then forced home keeper Nick Pope into a fine save as his excellent shot from outside the area was tipped over by Pope.
Finally the Mill Field outfit made their pressure tell in the final third when Chetin Ali fired the ball home past Pope in the striker’s first start for the club.
Female referee Alexandra Ihringova spared Boro’s Shaun Wanklyn an early bath when he was only given a caution after bringing down a goalbound Perry.
But after the break the hosts improved and substitute Papa Agyemang played in Bates - on loan from Npower League Two side Dagenham & Redbridge – slotted past Dave McCartney in the Millers goal to give them the equaliser.
A second half downpour didn’t help either side but in the end Aveley had to settle for their second point of the new Ryman Premier campaign.
