Injury time strike seals point for Beachboys on visit to Mill Field
Aveley 3 Concord Rangers 3
An injury-time strike from new Concord signing Dan Sabola forced Aveley to settle for their third draw of the season against Concord Rangers on Bank Holiday Monday at Mill Field.
Boss Carl Griffiths was forced into changes with left back Charlie Read suspended and Chetin Ali missing the game through illness, who were replaced in the starting line-up by Aaron Gonzalez and Joey May.
The Millers were 2-0 to the good at half time but couldn’t reproduce their best in the second period and were met by some stubborn opposition.
Aveley had got off to the best possible start when Lee Perry scored after six minutes and looked to be on course for their first three-point haul of the season when Sherwin Stanley netted his first goal of the season to double the Millers lead.
Ellis Remy missed a gilt edged chance to make it three and put the hosts out of sight when he rounded Concord keeper Dale Brightly only for his effort to hit the crossbar.
But Concord rallied after the break and pulled a goal back with little over a quarter of an hour to go when Michael Noone coolly slotted the ball past Millers keeper Dave McCartney after the visitors were awarded a penalty.
Skipper Nicky Cowley then pulled the Beachboys level with 84 minutes on the clock only for Stanley to convert a penalty in the 90th minute and double his tally for the afternoon.
But deep into stoppage time Sabola - who had spent some of pre-season trialling at Blue Square Bet Premier side Ebbsfleet United - and had signed just in time to feature in the game scored Concord’s late equaliser and forced the Millers to settle for yet another draw.
Aveley: Dave McCartney, Donovan Wilson, Aaron Gonzalez, Tony Russell, Cedric Ngakam, Sean Bonnett-Johnson, Sherwin Stanley, Micah Hyde, Ellis Remy, Joey May, Lee Perry.
Substitutes: Spencer Harrison, Ryan Andrews, Kieran Okungosa, Lewis Warren, Ross Parmenter.
