Heartbreak in Haringey
After leading twice the Millers were defeated with the last kick of the game from Haringey's goalkeeper from 90 yards.
The Millers suffered a heartbreaking defeat to Haringey Borough at Coles Park as the home goalkeeper Austin Byfield netted a stoppage time winner from 90 yards out.
The Millers can take a lot of positives from the game as we led twice at Coles Park, with Alex Teniola bagging both goals for the visitors, his first goals with his feet for the Millers since joining us, scoring his 6th and 7th goal for Aveley in 14 appearances.
But two goals in the final two minutes turned the game on its head and allowed Haringey to claim all three points.
It was a really open game, Haringey had the first chance of the game as top scorer Ralston Gabriel took aim at the near post but Rhys Madden was equal to it to beat it away.
We then had a couple of great chances. Lewis Gard first dragged his effort wide of the goal from the edge of the area. Then minutes later the ball re-bounded to Russell Malton, he aimed at goal but was an inch wide of the post. Max Bradford then should've put us ahead, the ball broke to him through on goal, but Haringey keeper Austin Byfield denied the midfielder with his legs.
The Millers were not to be denied for long as we took the lead just before the half hour mark when Lewis Gard slipped a pass in behind for Teniola to run onto and the frontman slotted home. Haringey 0-1 Aveley.
The hosts came straight back with a glorious chance to equalise, Ralston Gabriel was denied, the re-bound came to Georgiou but his snapshot again was cleared by Rhys Madden.
We then had an effort tipped over the bar from Byfield, before Max Bradford tried his luck again but saw his effort strike the post and bounce clear.
Half Time | Haringey Borough 0-1 Aveley.
Haringey started well on top in the second half, Gabriel shrugged off his marker, in on goal, but from an angle he put it wide and it went out for a throw. Seconds later Olufemi squared it to Gabriel but he blasted it over the bar. But Haringey were not to be denied an equaliser, Derek Asamoah got on the end of a cross from Olufemi who tapped in from close range. Haringey 1-1 Aveley.
Haringey kept coming and should've taken the lead from three brilliantly chances, but Rhys Madden denied Gabriel, Asamoah and Georgiou within a few minutes of eachother.
After having all that pressure on us, we countered and Alex Teniola superbly curled in from outside the area to find the bottom corner for his 7th of the season, and to re-store the Millers lead. Haringey 1-2 Aveley.
The Millers looked set up on the counter and looked dangerous, Max Bradford broke free down the right hand side, has his effort saved by Austin, Teniola followed in the rebound and he was close to turning it in, but it just wasn't meant to be.
Haringey came back and dominated large parts but the Millers continued to defend manfully. Gabriel header was denied by Madden, corner came into the back post and it was glanced wide by Mitchell.
Despite our magnificent fight and resistance the hosts equalised from a dubious free-kick. Although a bit soft, the free-kick was awarded but a stunning free-kick from Coby Rowe from 25-yards out pulled the hosts level. Haringey 2-2 Aveley.
As the game looked to have been over, the heartbreak came. Austin Byfield cleared the ball from inside his own box, it bounced off the surface, with back peddling Rhys Madden he batted it out of the goal, however, from the halfway line the decision was made that the ball had crossed the line in unbelievable circumstances to steal all the points. Haringey 3-2 Aveley.
