Millers beaten by Boro
Improved performance, but Haringey's killer instinct helped the promotion hopefuls to the win.
This game was always going to be a tough game with the fire-power the visitors had coming into he game, even without Andre McCollin, Haringey had; McKenzie, Gabriel, and ex-football league player Derek Asamoah. Along with the 8 clean sheets Boro had kept in their last 11 games going into this Monday night at Parkside.
It was definitely an improved performance from the Millers, but unfortunately they just fell short in way of creating chances early on as the visitors were buoyed by their previous run of results, and knowing that three points at Parkside, would mean they would be in automatic promotion contention.
The visitors started the better team and created a lot of chances, Rhys Madden was first on hand to deny David Olufemi, and minutes later the post helped keep out Chinedu McKenzie before Myles Keizer-Burrows managed to clear the re-bound away.
It seemed like it was coming and despite the Millers looking better from the 20th minute, having more possession only four minutes later the visitors took the lead on the counter. A ball through for Chinedu McKenzie sent the former Romford man through on goal, and he calmly slotted past Madden. Aveley 0-1 Haringey Borough.
Seven minutes later and the visitors doubled their lead, and it was a stunning goal. From absolutely nowhere Lauren Luke on the edge of the area managed to chip the goalkeeper and find the keepers top right-hand corner. Aveley 0-2 Haringey Borough.
On the 40th minute, Calvin Ekpiteta was forced off after a challenge which was two-footed from Lionel Stone, but he was deemed to get some of the ball, but Calvin was forced off and replaced by Garrett Kelly.
Just before the break Haringey should've made it 3-0. Rakim Richards lost his marker at the back post, tapped towards the goal, it was going in but then a Boro player standing offside and literally goal hanging, tapped the ball in from one yard, only to see the assistant referee lift his flag up to rule out the goal.
Half Time | Aveley 0-2 Haringey Borough.
Fifteen minutes into the second half and the Millers found our way through a stubborn Haringey defence, a cross into the goal landed to Chris Bourne who wonderfully curled into the top corner, on his right foot, and gave us a route back into the game. Aveley 1-2 Haringey Borough.
Unfortunately that chance in the game was over in less than a minute, Gabriel went forward from kick off, got to the penalty area, it looked like Matt Dicks attempted to challenge, but no-one was sure if contact was made, but a penalty was warded, and Gabriel stepped up and found the bottom corner. Aveley 1-3 Haringey Borough.
We had to wait ten minutes after that goal to create a chance, substitute Dan Walker worked well down the right, fizzed it into the box but the on-rushing Tom Richardson couldn't get a touch. Late into the game we should've been awarded a penalty, Tom Richardson beat the Haringey keeper to the ball, Haringey keeper attempted to punch the ball and instead he cleaned out Tom, but to the astonishment of Parkside, a throw-in was all the Millers got.
