Match Report - BAC RFC

Choo choo.....the unstoppable pain train coming through!!

3rd XV captains blog ... week 19 ... league game 5

The 3s are now 5 from 5 in the league after winning 17-10 at home against BAC 2s. The conditions were tricky at times but the weather didn't dampen any spirits and the game kicked off as planned. The rugby wasn't the prettiest, it didn't continually flow, there wasn't much champagne but there was grit and determination from both sides. The mud and puddles took their toll on some of the squad and it nearly broke our man of the match Dave Belfield, who was outstanding during the match, stealing countless ball from the opposition and scoring his second try of the season, in fact Dave never stopped for the whole 80 minutes.

From the kick off both sides crashed the ball at each other but we took the early lead when Jack kicked his 4th penalty of the season. Both forwards and backs combined well throughout the game and our scrum was solid, giving us a good platform to work from but BAC had the edge in the line out and their catch and drive earned them a penalty try when the ref decided we pulled a maul down on our own line! This was converted and not long after they kicked a penalty to make it 3-10.

We regained our focus in the second half and drove the ball to BAC's line, coming away with a try by MOM Dave Belfield, which was converted by Jack for his 19th of this campaign. The game was a mud bath and after this try everyone was ready to throw in the towel, even the ref but we kept going and after a quick tap penalty by our No 8, who drove the ball inches from the line, the ball was spun wide for Kel Malala to power over the line for his first try this season. The Malala twins are doing damage and it's great to have them in the squad. The conversion was taken by Iian Long and we came away victorious.

Both teams came off that field battered and bruised but we ground out a great victory. Our squad won us the game and this was the first week we haven't added a new player to it, we knew this day would come and week 19 ain't bad.

Next weeks league game is away to North Bristol. This game is always a fire cracker of a game, but this season with added noteariaty as ex 1st teamer Danny Williams is their head coach. As long as the weather is kind to us and the games on I want to see everyone available for this because this is the W we want guys. Have a good few days rest, train if and when you can and I will see you Saturday.
