Over a relatively short period of time, Aylesbury RFC has developed its facilities and operations into one of the finest rugby clubs around. Along the way we have grown into one of the biggest and best private hire venues in area.
As we embarked on this journey, we made the decision to recruit a General Manager to take on the day to day running of our club, to look at our processes and how we operate as a rugby club and private hire venue; and crucially to ensure we offer the best experience for our membership and guests.
We were very fortunate to have found Matt, who not only took on the position of General Manager, but also the role of “Consultant” to assist in the “professionalisation” of the Club.
Matt has moved mountains and taken us ahead in leaps and bounds. Along the way he oversaw the installation of the Artificial Grass Pitch and implemented the Facilities Management agreement for the AGP with the RFU. We were the first club to take on this experimental arrangement. All of this he has done with professionalism, patience, positivity and ultimately, success.
Matt has helped build a dedicated team of staff and volunteers and I'm sure Matt will be the first to agree, that credit must also be given to everyone that has worked with him during his tenure.
As a club, we have come a long way since Matt’s appointment and as members, you’ll have enjoyed many of the improvements.
We now have a very clear idea of what we do well and what best supports our key reason for existence – Rugby.
The Club has reached a point where, thanks to Matt, we are running smoothly and Matt’s “consultancy” role is winding down. In addition, Matt feels the need for a fresh challenge and has made us aware that he doesn’t wish to continue in the role of General Manager.
Matt has agreed to remain in post and play a key part in recruiting a suitable successor and we will begin the search for a General Manager in the new year.
The Senior Management Team would like to put on record their thanks for all that Matt has achieved in his time at the club. We all know how difficult it is to manage the competing sensitivities and egos at our Rugby Club. Matt has succeeded admirably, with humour, dedication and persistence. It can’t have been easy! Thank you Matt and all the best for your next challenge.
