Aylesbury 1s dominant display over league strugglers Drifters
Aylesbury RFC enjoyed a dominant 112-0 win over Buckinghamshire strugglers Drifters RFC. The power and pace from a strong Aylesbury side was too much to handle for bottom side Drifters. An try-fest afternoon saw scores from Woodfall (3), Mercer (3), Gould (3), Olayinka (2), Shearer (2), Herlihy, Horne and Dennis. Fullback Shearer converted 11 taking the final score comfortably past the 100 mark.
Head coach Jon Lambden had this to say after the game ‘We will certainly come up against stronger teams but at the end of the day you have to beat the team in front of you and the boys did that very well.’ He went on to add ‘Next week is a huge week for the senior section and the club as a whole as we build towards the Bucks Cup Final against Amersham and Chiltern RUFC on Saturday. With such an impressive result today and lots of the lads putting their hand up selection will be a tough one, but that’s a good problem to have.’
Ays were in control of the game early on, scoring with less than five minutes on the clock and despite a spirited fight back from Drifters they were never causing enough danger in their attack to concern the Aylesbury defence. The power of the Aylesbury forwards keep the pace of the game up, which suited an in-form backline looking to run from everywhere on the pitch.
There will certainly be bigger challenges ahead for Aylesbury and this starts straight away with the big Bucks Cup Final this Saturday. Old rivals Amersham and Chiltern will be going into the game confident but if Aylesbury can turn on the form and flare seen against Drifters there could easily be an upset on the cards.
