A good day out at Oxford RFC
Aylesbury RFC U10s travelled to Oxford RFC yesterday for a tri-fixture against them and High Wycombe.
This trip, proved to be a marked improvement on our travels to Amersham & Chiltern the previous week.
It was a morning of fierce contest, plenty of tries and most importantly - great spirit.
We came away with two wins, one loss, a black eye, several studded shins and 18 smiling faces.
We took a squad of 18 but couldn't commit to two teams so played with an army of subs.
This may sound like a luxury, but as we found the previous week, unless the subs are managed with military precision, it is very easy to end up with an equal split of exhausted players who haven't been off the pitch and fed up players who are desperate to spend more time on it. I hope we cracked it yesterday....
A couple of positives that the coaching team were glad to bring away yesterday were:
1: A prolonged period of passing out to wingers waiting in space, rather than constantly mauling in the middle of the pitch.
2: Finally realising the importance of the defensive line pushing up as one with pace at the re-start. The number of players who said "they looked worried and didn't know what to do" or similar about their terrified opponents, goes to show that they do listen to us occasionally.
All in all, an enjoyable day playing exciting rugby against two excellent opponents.
A very friendly club to visit and we look forward to meeting them and High Wycombe again, soon.
