London Wasps Premiership Rugby Cup 2012
Bowl winning boys!
Aylesbury Under 11s – Land Rover Cup U11s Bowl Winners
With almost 50% of the players in attendance new to rugby this season it was with some trepidation that the U11s made their way down to Farnham Royal RFC. In the first game, the boys started really well and were very unlucky to lose, with opportunities to score sent begging. The second game saw continued improvement, with some awesome defence, and again the result did not reflect the gap between the sides. The final game was very one-sided to begin with, with some very big opposition lads using their strength and speed very intelligently to target our weaker tacklers.
With players being given opportunities to play in different positions in each game, we were always going to struggle against teams who played fixed combinations. However, over the course of the matches, players began to gain understanding of the requirements of different roles and were already relating their match experiences to what they needed to work on in training.
Going into the semi-final of the Bowl competition, the boys (and some Mums) were very excited following a visit from Billy Vunipola, and proceeded to tear apart the Wasps B side, playing the best rugby of their careers in both attack and defence.
Coming off the field on Cloud 9, the boys entered the final full of confidence. Going behind quite early on dented their new found confidence and individual players forgot the lessons learnt during the course of the day (namely teamwork), and a number of chances to score went begging. The match ended with honours even, which was probably a fair reflection of the two teams, and under the tournament rules, Aylesbury were named winners on countback.
