Rusty Win at Amersham
Happy Start to the New Year
Having gone in to the 2014 seasonal break with a loss against Thatcham IIs, Ays were keen to steady the ship and put in a good performance to kick start the rest of the season.
With good availability the team sheet looked good on paper, but could they deliver against an Amersham team hungry for a home win?
Loosing Jonny Burgess due to illness after training on Thursday and Dan Butcher with a hamstring strain in the warm up meant some last minute shuffling of the deck with Steve Rogers moving in to the centres from the win leaving a slot for Senior debutant Greg Vickers. Mike Evans taking up the fly half position.
The pack started well and it wasn't long before Dayle Collings got on the score sheet to open the account for the day. Other tries followed from Steve Rogers and Joe O'Leary in the first half with Mike Evans converting 2 out of 3.
Amersham opened their scoring account with a try late on in the first half, much to the disappointment of the Coach Andrew Blake.
This score revitalised the Amersham team who ground out a good performance across the 80 minutes.
HT Amersham & Chiltern 7 - 19 Aylesbury
The start second half saw Dan Davis come off the bench, with John Rickard also getting on shortly afterwards.
Ay's continued to make hard work of the game, which was afterwards put down to being 'rusty' and lack of attendance at regular training sessions as a squad. However the score board continued to reflect the control over the game with additional tries from Greg Vickers (debutant), a deserved score from the ever energetic Liam Moloney, John Rickard making a statement having come off the bench and finally Liam Moloney finishing off the game.
Mike Evans had a interesting day with the conversions, notably slotting the more difficult kicks from the touchline and missing those closer to the sticks.
FT Amersham & Chiltern 7 - 45 Aylesbury
Man of the Match: Greg Vickers, scoring on his debut at senior level, but more importantly clearly comfortable playing at this level or above
