A Royal Ascent for 2nd XV
Fitting end to another great season
With SW Rugby confirming the top two places in the BBO2 League will attain promotion, the 2nd XV needed the win to secure the necessary points to leave no doubt as to who the two best teams were this season.
With Windsor 2nd XV not having a game scheduled, as expected a few of these players joined the 3rd XV team mates for the last game of the season. However, despite a mediocre warm up, the metal shown by the ARFC team ensured that there was only going to be one outcome of this game.
Early tries from Mark Jeffers and Eddy Brooke got the scoreboard ticking over nicely although Nicky Mercer struggled with conversions due to a strong cross pitch wind. Further first half scores from Ollie Sayer (x2) and Matt Dennis secured the Try Bonus point. A momentary lapse of concentration allowed Windsor to avoid the 'duck' with a try right on half time.
HT 5 - 25
The second half saw Aylesbury really start to dominate in the pack, driving Windsor backwards at scrums. The best try of the game came from one such scrum in the middle of the park, with the ball being fed out left from Hugo Wigington, through the hands of the back line to Greg Vickers who ran hard up the wing to draw the winger and complete the offload to Matt Dennis supporting on the inside (take note Mark Jeffers and Tom McWilliams of how it should be done) to leave himself only a few yards to get over the line.
Hugo Wigington a 4th year Medical Student, proved he still has Black and Magenta coursing through his veins and managed to get a brace of tries for himself. The Club Captain and 2nd XV Captain Alexi Sale also got on the score sheet, finding himself in acres of space to go in under the posts. Nicky Mercer adding to his impressive tally of conversions for the season with 2 successes in the second half.
FT 5 - 49
Thanks go out to the travelling support of Dan Nottingham-Boss, Alex Inglis, Mr Vickers, Mr Dennis, Liz Bernal - great to have you along for the game.
Official confirmation of promotion to BBO 1 is eagerly awaited, where the 2nd XV will join the likes of Amersham & Chiltern II, Maidenhead II, Reading II, Chinnor III, Oxford Quins II, Readingensians II and Windsor II in season 2015/16.
