Vets win on first away day of season
A good win for the first game of the season from the Vets with guest appearances from a few youngsters!
Aylesbury Vets - 50, Rushden & Higham 3’s/Vets - 5
A good win for the first game of the season from the Vets with guest appearances from a few youngsters (Tom & Dan Cotton-Boss. At 31 not sure Tom can be classed as that anymore thou).
I’m sure it wasn’t the best flowing Rugby you’ll see but with a hard dodgy pitch and the sun shining if was an enjoyable game and in the end a convincing victory.
With Joint Captain Julian ‘Shandy’ Jones pulling the strings of a good forward effort which kept us in the ascendency for most of the match, (which was impressive considering those dark glasses and that white stick making him always go blind from the base of the scrum!) Making it an arm chair ride for the backs, creating the opportunities & running in the tries.
New Vets Tom Seale, Gareth Davis, Martin Jackson, Rick James all contributed well.
Rick James pulled his hamstring (not an unusual occurrence in the vets) while getting his leg over the try line after being on the Pitch for 5 minutes or so.
So best wishes for a speedy recovery.
After the after match fines, drinking games, fun bus, late night, I’m not sure who all the try scorers were. I can’t remember who got the Armadillo either……..????
Greg Thomas - 2
Ady Mckay - 1

Thanks to Ivan & Nick Reed for helping the backs out, Tom & Dan for playing on the wings and George & Gus for coming to support.
Great effort by all. Lots of room for improvement I think most would agree. Rushden were a good bunch of lads and hopefully everyone enjoyed themselves.
Ady ‘Prince’ Mckay going through to score after a 10 metre gap parted to run in from a 5 metre scrum. (Perhaps he should be upgraded to ‘Moses’ McKay.)
The ball bouncing into Greg Thomas hands (again) on a weighted cross field Dmytrenko kick.
Slick back to basic hands down the line for the first try.
Howie’s ‘Get off me’ hand offs to run in for his try.
Dominant scrum & few push over drives for tries from the forwards.
Greg getting caught from behind for the first time ever, he was half his age thou.
Ivan getting bumped off by their new number 10, weighing in over 20 stones in the 2nd half.
Good lineout’s with plenty of stolen ball.
Lots of ‘Still got it’ class from all the players on show.
Some classy moves from the backline to score their tries.
From a coaching perspective – Think someone needs to get Gordon a Sat Nav!!!!
