Vets keep season's 100% winning record
Another good performance from the Veterans in Magenta & Black on Saturday keeping our 100% winning record intact for the season.
Another good performance from the Veterans in Magenta & Black on Saturday keeping our 100% winning record in tact for the season.
After a good start and trying to play some champagne rugby, we made two mistakes in their 22 and the opposition sprinted away to score run away tries. We realized Vauxhall were a youthful side with some pace in the backs.
We came to the conclusion that in fact we only had beer tokens in the bank. The big Jumper was called for and it was to be kept tight.
We had dominance in the line out with Dan Cott-Boss to the fore and when the scrum started to get on top we had plenty supply of ball the straggle the life out of them.
Plenty of rumbling driving mauls and crashing up in the centers soon returned some structure. One driving maul almost went in from the half way line.
Soon the tries came with Phil Simon & Simon ‘Slim’ Roberts scoring tries to level the score at half time.
More of the same in the second half with another couple of scores (Steve Chappell scoring his first ever try) coming to clinch the match.
Vauxhall always looked dangerous on the break & missed a couple of chances to score.
A hard fought victory but Aylesbury’s class came through in the end. I think the score was 20-10
Good performance from new Fullback ex first team/RAF man Paul Richardson, All the forwards, & Julian filling in at scrum half. We now know how the Welsh backs feel waiting for Mike Phillips to pass out!!!
Highlight of the day was when Phil Simon (wing) Paul Richardson (Fullback) tackled each other leaving their man standing and canter into score.
