Copied fro a post by Steve O on the forum for your reference guys:

Why we need to charge subs and an annual membership?

Each week a game is played there are costs to the club.
For each home game the council charge £36.40 for the use of each pitch.
The referees society charge the home side £15 for each referee.
The food at The Old Horse costs £30 per team.
The shirts are laundered at 60p a shirt so a set of 18 costs £10.80.
Training at Saffron Lane costs £20 each week.

So based on an average of 1 home and 1 away game each week costs the club £123 a week.
This does not take into account replacing kit year on year such as shirts, tackle pads, first aid kits, flags, post protectors and balls. There are also annual costs such as subscription to the RFU and the Leicestershire RFU and the annual dinner.

Income each week from match subs should be 15x£5=£75 per team but we have students playing who pay £3 subs (and new players do not pay for their first game) so we never collect the “full” amount of £75. I fact last year we collected on average (the whole of last year) just over £48 per team that played. Most players are ready to pay subs each week but some players leave early after the game, some players don’t carry cash and maybe some try to avoid paying.

The club does sell some kit: socks, shorts and ties. All of these are at cost, a small profit or a small loss. The small profit/loss is just rounding costs to the nearest pound to make transactions simpler and evens out in the long term.

All of this means that without annual membership fees the club will run at a loss and as such not survive into the future.

So thank you to everyone who has paid their subs each week and paid their annual membership. Hzb.
