AFC Hayes arrived at Shawfield Road boasting a good recent upturn in results, although they, like their hosts, were knocked out of the cup in the week

Manager Ben Dillon had to make a couple of changes to the side that were beaten in midweek by Spelthorne Sports in the Challenge Cup.
Josh Peckham returned in goal for the injured Pat Kinsella, Darren Blake replaced the absent Jon Palmer and was paired with Ryan Stephens up front. George Jones was handed a debut for the injured Mason Saunders.
The game started at quite a pace and it was clear to see that the visitors were intent on putting their hosts on the back foot early on. Fortunately for the Baggies, AFC Hayes too often selected the wrong final pass and in fairness Josh Peckham didn't really have many shots to deal with. In terms of the home side, apart from a couple of long range efforts and corners they were mainly defending during the first period. New signing George Jones and Lukas Burt on the opposite wing were looking like the best options to get anything from the game as the strong centre back pairing we're dealing with everything in the air.
Half time 0-0
The 2nd half started much brighter for the home side and it seemed that Ben Dillon and his management team got a reaction from their half time talk. On 48 minutes they opened the scoring. Some good work down the right from Lukas Burt saw his cross reach Darren Blake on the eve of the AFC Hayes box, he controlled it and in the same movement he sweeped home a shot which hit the roof of the net. This goal seemed to inject new belief into the home side and for the next fifteen minutes largely controlled the game and it was their turn to have their opponents on the back foot. On 61 minutes they doubled their lead. This time the visitors were partly at fault. The keeper decide to throw the ball out to the left back when it didn't look like he was ready to receive it. Lukas Burt dispossessed him and crossed the ball to the back post where Ryan Stephens beat the keeper with a good left foot finish. In between this the home side could have put the game to bed when Darren Blake gear the defender for pace but the keeper saved well down to his left. The visitors needed to get a goal back quickly if they were to get anything from the game. On 68 minutes they did it. Substitute Gibson Pasma scored the goal of the game when he smashed in a shot from 25 yards giving Peckham no chance.
Ben Dillon made some good substitutions to protect his lead with Zachary Hawker and Adam New being bought on.
The home side held firm to pick up another valuable three points. That makes it seven points from nine since Ben Dillon has been appointed manager.
No midweek game this week, with the next fixture being next Saturday 24th October away to Colliers Wood Utd (3pm KO)
