History
With the pressure of competing in the league removed, the club continued to flourish, albeit fairly static in terms of growth, but with a steady influx of new blood replacing retirees and players leaving the club due to work commitments. This continued until the the season 2002/2003, when the retirement of several key players at the end of the previous season seriously weakened the squad. The ‘02/’03 season was a testing time for all those involved at the club, and it is testament to the desire to keep the club playing come what may, that we are still here at all. Slowly, the corner was turned, and with the steady arrival of new players during 2003 and 2004, the club found itself in its strongest position in terms of personnel for many years. Along with the upturn in numbers playing and training for the club, the standard of rugby improved, due in no small part to the efforts of our past and present coaches, allowing a return to league rugby for the first time since 1997. The club now plays in the Fairclough Homes League, and is also entered in the Lancashire Plate.
Home matches are played at Bank Lane sports ground, Warton and clubhouse facilities are provided at the Lightning Club. The club provides indoor and outdoor training, insurance for members, and has a varied social calendar dreamed up by the Ents. Committee. In addition to trips to internationals, the annual Sportsmans Dinner, functions, etc the club tours abroad every year. Past destinations have included Dublin, Amsterdam, Galway, Isle of Man Easter Festival, Antwerp, Edinburgh, Torremolinos, Cork and Majorca . We are always on the lookout for new players, and at the time of writing are on the verge of establishing a second team. As well as players, non-playing members/spectators are always welcome at games and afterwards at the Lightning Club.
