Bashley F C 1 Baffins Milton Rovers 2 Match report by Paul Edwards

Bashley F C 1 Baffins Milton Rovers 2

Baffins travelled to Bashley for the second time in just over a month looking to gain revenge for the league loss and did so in emphatic style.

Despite the scoreline, Rovers took the game to the hosts straight from kick off and despite dominating the play found themselves a goal down at the break.

Two goals in the second half ensured it is Rovers name in the hat for the draw on Monday.

Baffins had the early chances and Callum Dart curled an effort round the defence and past the far post.

Jason Parish was then denied at the near post by keeper Jason Collins, after the striker was to read a Robbie Taw cross.

Having rarely threatened the Rovers goal, the hosts took the lead in the 19th minute when Collins launched a long ball forward, which was flicked on by Sam Jackson and Cameron Beard and Shane Cornish challenged, with the striker claiming the last touch as the ball looped over the stranded Tony Male.

Parish was again presented with an effort at the other end when Robbie Taw flicked on a Freeman Williams cross, only for his effort to be saved by Collins.

Collins was again in the right place at the right time to punch clear a Shane Cornish free kick.

Just before the break Corey Burns let fly with a long range effort which flew across goal and narrowly wide.

H/T 1-0

Rovers were awarded a penalty early in the second half when Williams was brought down in the box, after cutting in from the wing and holding off Brad Strickers, who needlessly brought him down.

Ashton Leigh brought the sides level in the 54th minute, drilling the spot kick into the bottom corner of the net.

Parish and Tommy Leigh had attempts to gain Rovers the lead, but each time they found Collins to hard to beat.

Collins was eventually beaten for the second time in the 72nd minute when Tommy Leigh cross eluded Parish and Taw was on hand to head home at the far post.

Taw and Leigh again combined with the former crossing for the latter, only for him to rise in the box and head over the top.

A Tommy Leigh cross then saw Parish putting pressure on Collins, who spiked the effort and shambled it clear just as the striker looked to have gained an advantage.

Rovers coincided a couple of needless free kicks late in the game, allowing the hosts to load the box and fire the ball in, but they found the Rovers defence, marshalled by Male determined not to allow their lead slip.

Baffins:- Male, Burns, Williams, Cornish, A Leigh, Yates, T Leigh, Wedlake, Parish, Dart, Taw

Subs:- White, Saunders, Root, McLean, Moret

Afterwards Steve Leigh said " From the first minute to the last we where the better side and defended well when we needed to. Our decision making was good all round. We dominated the game, but the score line doesn't reflect the possession we had, which was as much as 80%. We need to make sure we get the rewards our play at times deserves and perhaps going forward need to be a little more sharper and support more and quicker.

Really pleased with the result and performance and is no more than we deserved, having gone a goal down against the run of play, we showed good character to come back and win the game."
