Bakewell vs Tupton U10 (7 - 0) - Match Report
Second of Day's Triple Header
After their success against Asbourne, Tupton were next in the Bakewell boys’ sights who continued in the same vein. Will Adlington opened the scoring with a smart pick-up and drive over the Tupton line. Then Tom Mayhew’s smart pass released the effervescent Finnay who touched down on a line, though sadly for Eddie & Bakewell not ‘the’ line, demarcated a few feet away by cones. Bakewell did not rue the missed opportunity for long as Mayhew, this time released Joe Fitzsimons, who was careful not to repeat Finnay’s error, touching down for his team’s second. Play was halted to allow attention to Ryan Dakin injured in an attempt no doubt to top his earlier ‘Tackle of the day’ against Ashbourne which unfortunately saw him enter the tackle a tad awkwardly. Thankfully he was not seriously hurt but would take no further part in the day’s proceedings. When play recommenced Ludo Litchfield’s single minded drive yielded Bakewell’s third just before the half time whistle. The interval didn’t appear to dampen Litchfield’s enthusiasm; quite the reverse. Receiving the ball direct from the restart Litchfield ran through shocked Tupton ranks to register his second and a Bakewell fourth. He wasn’t done yet as with Bakewell’s next possession Ludo registered Bakewell’s fifth with his hat trick try and possibly the quickest hat trick ever by his team. Tupton manfully tried to respond but were halted when Max Webber tackled and drove his victim yards backwards forcing a knock-on. From the Bakewell scrum Webber then picked out Fitzsimons who crossed for Bakewell’s sixth. Ed Finnay rounded out the Bakewell scoring after a characteristic run this time touching down much to his relief over the correct line to complete an emphatic 7 – 0 victory for the home team.
