With title hopes and relegation woes for some clubs, Hywel starts his preview this week with a reminder of what the League Rules say.

In view of the various possible end of season permutations involving teams at both the top and bottom of the league I have reproduced below a copy of the league rules which may come into play in the event of clubs finishing the season on equal number of points.

In view of the various possible end of season permutations involving teams at both the top and bottom of the league I have reproduced below a copy of the league rules which may come into play in the event of clubs finishing the season on equal number of points.

National League placings will be decided on the basis of League points gained during the season. Where teams have gained equal numbers of League points, the team with the most wins shall be given preference. If the number of wins is equal then the Club having recorded the most tries in the Season shall be given preference. If the number of tries is equal the points ‘for’ shall be divided by the points ‘against’ and the team with the highest factor shall be declared to have the better record.

Now back to business, a large crowd basking in the Spring sunshine were treated to an almighty top of the table clash at Pwllheli when leaders Nant suffered their first defeat on the road this season.

Pwllheli maintained their enviable home record to keep their title hopes alive. Nant have one more game to play to complete their season --away to Bethesda. The reigning champions have it all to do to win their remaining five matches all away from their Bodegroes fortress.

Their quest starts tomorrow when they visit Bethesda The Howgets have lost their way in their last few games plummeting to ninth position and come into the match on the back of a heavy defeat at Dolgellau. Pwllheli won the corresponding fixture 28-12 earlier in the season and on form should complete the double to maintain their title challenge.

North wales cup finalists Bala host Rhuthun. Both teams are in inconsistent form and it is a difficult call and to cap it all their last league encounter ended in a rare 25-25 draw. I will go for home advantage this time round.

Relegation threatened Llangefni, buoyed by a good bonus point home win against Mold last time out, travel to old rivals Caernarfon. The Cofis lost out 29-13 at improving Llandudno in midweek and the islanders will fancy their chances to reverse the 37-16 hammering suffered at the beginning of the session. This could be close but the Cofis may have the edge.

Abergele head to Meifod to take on COBRA. The Montgomeryshire outfit badly need a win to steer themselves away from the relegation clutches of the bottom two clubs below them. COBRA won 23-20 earlier in the season and would settle for another similar victory in what is Gele's final league game of the season. Gele have equipped themselves very well in their first season in Div 1 and will provide stiff opposition. This will be a tense/hard fought encounter -- COBRA may squeeze the points with their home advantage.

Llandudno who have climbed to fourth place in the table off the back of recent impressive performances host bottom club Dolgellau. The visitors had a great win last Saturday beating Bethesda whilst the hosts beat Caernarfon in midweek. Tudno are going well and will have third place finish in their sights they will also be very keen to avenge the heavy 42-12 defeat earlier in the season. Dolgellau will battle all the way but the home side may prove too strong.
