Joy on the Moy

In the space of just six days the Senior ladies team of St Joseph's Foxford claimed the elusive Connacht Cup title that both the junior and senior boys had missed out on a week previously.

The Connacht Emerging Schools one-day sevens cup brought six schools to Tuam RFC for a wonderful day's rugby with two different compeitions played out.

Foxford kicked off proceedings with the demolition of Sligo Grammar with the very impressive Amy O'Connor touching down not once, but three times to leave the score 15-0 with Rebecca Gaughan grabbing another try to leave the final score 20-0.

The second fixture for Foxford came in the way of Scoil Mhuire Swinford who were competing for the very first time. Although inexperienced at this level the Swinford girls showed tremendous grit throughout the game, only for Foxford to prevail with 3 unanswered tries .

Swinford next took on Sligo Grammar and after a bright start where they scored an early try, Sligo Grammar touched down just at the half time whistle.
The Second half resumed with Sligo in ascendancy, dotting down immediately at the restart quickly followed by another but the ladies of Swinford were to have the last say by scoring at the end

Each team then played each other once more with Swinford eventually winning their last game against Grammar on a score of four tries to nil.

The deciding match saw Foxford take on Sligo Grammar and the Mayo ladies made no mistake in completing the task of retaining the cup, which they won a season previous.

Credit must be given to Sligo Grammar and especially Scoil Mhuire Swinford for playing at such a high level .
The future is very bright for ladies rugby in the North West.
