Narrow defeat for Under-13's in seven goal thriller

Ballymena United Youth Academy Under-13's faced Tristar Boys on Friday night in the NIBFA National League.

With Jonny and Davy unavailable Stephen Douglas and Damien Curran took charge of the Under-13 side on Friday night at Allen Park for the NIBFA National League game against Tristar Boys.

The boys worked extremely hard and can consider themselves unfortunate not to get more from the game regarding result.

Across the units on the pitch the boys started really well. Good in possession and determination to win the ball back quickly resulted with the Sky Blues taking a two goal lead after 15 minutes. Goals from Callum and Jude. The first goal was created by great persistence from Tyresse and Jay. The ball fell nicely in the box around 14 yards from goal and Callum Douglas tucked it away nicely.

The second goal came from Tristar making a defensive clearance from around 30 yards Jude meet this and pinged a great strike which the tristar goalkeeper was unable to hold.

At this stage the guys were confident at the back Mason Hume hadn’t a lot to do early on. Jude , Ben and Matty winning balls and staying composed playing into the midfield four of Pete, Jay, Ryan and Callum. Which were playing well in and out of possession. Our front three of Tyreece, Jay and Alex showed signs that there maybe more goals for the young Sky Blues.

Tristar were then starting to come into game more. Showing more action at our end of the pitch. Their first goal came in this period when their midfielder made a positive pass forward which their striker raced onto and slotted pass Mason in goal. Their second goal was similar to their first a long pass forward, we were caught high up the pitch and again their striker showed a turn of pace to race forward and score their second goal.

The visitors had their tails up having come back to level the score it this stage. Fair play the our guys they rolled the sleeves up and regrouped starting to cause a few problems of our own. Mention to Jay Peacock and Ryan Clarke as they worked tirelessly in midfield to try and get us back in the game making great interceptions. Not long before half time Tristar scored their third goal across from their right winger into the box and their player executed a great header to give mason no chance.

At the break Cormac and Conlin came on into the wide areas. Alexander came on at left full back. Boys started positively playing and trying their best which is all we ask for.

We seemed to be getting back into the groove getting more passing moves . Then Tristar scored their fourth goal. Could see the disappointment on their faces which is positive shows these young Sky Blues care. They continued to battle hard and played well in areas trying to get back into the game. Our third goal came direct from a free kick hit in by Jude again from distance.

Oisin and Shea came on and also worked hard trying to get us back into game, unfortunately it wasn’t to be this time. Stephen and I were delighted with the groups attitude and performance another day we maybe could have got a win.
