Ryan Stephens double for Under-11 'Town' against Ridgeway

Ballymena United Youth Academy Under-11 'Town' faced Ridgeway Rovers in the South Belfast Youth League on Saturday.

The young sky blues from the Ballymena United Youth Academy Under-11's were glad to be back in action after the the snow halted the matches last week.

This match was played in great spirit, the game was tight and Ridgeway got the first break in play after a cross into the box was tucked away.
Ridgeway then had the bit between the teeth and further extended their lead after a nice finish. The boys in blue never gave in and continued to push for goals themselves and finally just before the break Ryan Stephens got the break and tucked it away.

Second half and with their tails up, Ballymena Ryan Stephens grabbed his second of the game after the keeper had made a save from a Fintan Steele shot and fell for Ryan to slot home. The game remained tight with both teams having chances.

The final goal came after Carson Hume hit a nice diagonal ball into the box from the right back position defenders and attackers all missed the ball and it went in by the keeper as he had no time to react.

Ridgeway pushed to get back on level terms but Ballymena defended well and held out to the end.

There could have been a few man of the match awards today Ryan Stephens with his two goals, Alfie McKee would was excellent at left back or Carson Hume is is always a solid performer.

But it goes to Ashton Trethowan who was excellent the coaches have been waiting on this performance from him as he has all the ability but he's really starting to mature and it is showing that all his hard work at training and home is paying off.
