Dogged draw for Under-14's on Friday night
Ballymena United Under-14's faced Lurgan Town on Friday night in the NIBFA National League.
The Under 14s continued their recent good form with a determined and dogged 1-1 draw away to Lurgan Town on Friday evening.
What made this performance so impressive was the fact that they played with 10 men for two thirds of the game. It was a very mature and professional performance of work rate, game management and positional discipline.
Ballymena took the lead on two minutes when Billy Ewart won a tackle on the edge of the box, passed to Joshua Balmer who teed up Kirk McLaughlin to lob the keeper.
Owen Blair then tested the Lurgan keeper from 25 yards and then turned provider as he crossed for McLaughlin to head over.
Ballymena then had a man sent off for an innocuous challenge. However they were intelligent in possession and made it difficult for Lurgan to break them down. Watterson, Dowey and Dallas were superb in front of McMullan in goal.
Ewart and Montgomery worked tirelessly in midfield, Balmer and Tennant added creativity and Oisin Omullan ran himself into the ground up front.
Lurgan got on equal terms with 20 minutes remaining but Ballymena looked more likely to grab a winner with Balmer, Blair and O'mullan going close late on.
Overall a very proud performance full of character and so difficult to pick a man of the match as the whole team were superb.
