St Aidans School, Larch Grove, PR5 6GX is hosting a recycling skip from 7th May for one week, any recycling you have helps them to raise funds.

Any electrical goods can be delivered from 8am Tuesday (7th May) to lunchtime Friday (10th May).

More information on what you can recycle is below

Waste Electrical Equipment – If you don't use it recycle it at School to earn money

Small electrical items such as kettles, irons, clocks, remote controls, games consoles, telephones and toothbrushes are quite often discarded with household rubbish because of their small size.

Electrical items contain hazardous substances and it is important to divert these from household waste to reduce the levels present in Organic Growth Medium which is the end product of the Waste Recovery Park at Farington (where all of Bamber Bridge's rubbish goes)

Recycling electrical equipment is environmentally friendly – unwanted electricals and electronics can be recycled and contain really valuable raw materials. For example, one iron contains enough steel to produce 13 steel cans.

To help remove these items from household rubbish we have agreed to take part in a trial with Lancashire County Council and Valpak. The school will be having a skip on the school grounds week commencing 7th May for four days only to collect these items. Please encourage the pupils to bring small household items such as kettles, toasters, irons, hair dryers, DVD / video players, telephones, printers, power tools, video consoles, electric toothbrushes, etc. The school has received £100 for taking part in the trial and will receive £200 per tonne of electrical equipment received. So let's get collecting!

The small mixed electrical waste will be separated by trained employees using a sophisticated shredding system, separating ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals and non-metals. The aim is to ensure that as much of this rubbish is diverted from the Waste Recovery Park.

Hazardous items cannot be collected and will not fit through the chutes of the skip. These include TVs, Monitors, Fridges, Freezers and Fluorescent lighting.

Do be careful when carrying your items, if possible tie up the cables or wires so reducing the risk of tripping.
