Fan's favourite becomes only the second player to reach over 400 appearances for Brig!

He’s by far the best player I had the privilege of managing.
- Neil Crowe, BBFC Director of Football

It isn’t often many footballers go on to represent a professional club 400 times, never mind at non-league level.

So for Alistair Waddecar to have ticked that one off at Scarborough last weekend, it speaks volumes about his commitment, professionalism and attitude when you take into account he is still just 28-years-old.

Ali becomes only the second ever Brigger to do so, joining an elite club of two alongside Dave Leaver, who made 447 appearances in a Bamber Bridge shirt.

Waddecar, or “chop suey” as he is nicknamed, has been the spearhead of Brig’s attack ever since he joined back in July 2010.

Whether he’s turning full-backs inside out for 90-minutes, picking out an inch perfect cross, or bending one in the top corner from 25-yards, he’s always been a constant threat and thorn in opposition defences.

And this season has been no different, he has already chipped in with nine goals and we’re only half-way through October.

Four of those came in a scintillating individual display at home to Stafford Rangers, in a 6-1 rout where he stole the show as he has done so many times before.

Brig’s Director of Football, Neil Crowe was full of praise for the club’s talisman and No.7.

“He’s by far the best player I had the privilege of managing,” said Crowey. “The loyalty shown by Ali to the club is outstanding and long may it continue.”

It is not just at the Sir Tom Finney Stadium where Waddecar’s efforts are appreciated and recognised.

Earlier this year he was named No.11 in the top 100 all time Evo-Stik players, a list put together to celebrate 50 years since the league’s birth.

It isn’t often players like Alistair Waddecar come around at any level of football.

Ali receives supporter's player of the year award at the 2017/18 end of season awards.

His days at Bamber Bridge will surely continue for a number of years yet, and it’d be surprising if he doesn’t surpass that record 447 games.

Everyone connected with the club will be hoping so, because he’s the type of player that when he’s on the football pitch, you know your team always has every chance of winning.

Cheers, Ali!
